Kingdom of the Wicked|ARC Review

Emilia and her twin sister Victoria are streghe – witches who live secretly among humans, avoiding notice and persecution. One night, Victoria misses dinner service at the family’s renowned Sicilian restaurant. Emilia soon finds the body of her beloved twin…desecrated beyond belief. Devastated, Emilia sets out to discover who did this, and to seek vengeance at any cost—even if it means using dark magic that’s been long forbidden.

Then Emilia meets Wrath, the outlier among the seven demon brethren, always choosing duty over pleasure. He’s been tasked by his master with investigating a series of women’s murders on the island. When Emilia and Wrath’s fates collide, it’s clear this disturbing mystery will take a bewitching turn…

Kerri Maniscalco introduces her next series, a dark tale of a beautiful young witch, a troubled demon, and their epic romance, set against a 19th century Italian backdrop.

Thank you to hodder for providing me with an ARC to review. All opinions are my own.

I was very excited to read this book going in as I loved Kerri Maniscalco’s Stalking Jack the Ripper series and I’m very happy to say I was not disappointed. This was everything I wanted in the book and more. I knew Kerri Maniscalco could write a great mystery and this was no exception.

This follows Emelia who is a witch and believes that a lot of the things her grandmother tells her about the demon princes is silly superstition. That is until she finds her twin sister dead and everything her grandmother said coming true.
This was such a great mystery and I loved following Emilia as she tried to learn of her sisters killer. The pacing of the story was excellent and I did not want to put the book down. It kept me on the edge of my seat. The plot was amazing and I could not guess the direction it would go in.
I loved the setting of this as it wasn’t very complicated and read as our world but I’m guessing the next books the world will be expanded a lot. The magic system was really interesting. I love the concept of the princes being the 7 deadly sins.
I loved the two main characters, Emilia and Wrath. The dynamic between them was great and the romance was done so well. It was developed and not just thrown in. I can’t wait to see what happens with it in the next book.
The ending has me wanting the next book straight away and I have to wait so long.
I highly recommend this book if you like mysteries. I think you can read this even if you’re not a big fantasy reader as it’s very easy to get immersed in the story. If you loved Kerri Maniscalco’s other series, you’ll love this.
